Because of the combination of the gene's chromosomes, Calico cats are usually female, but they sometimes males are born. From long ago, these have been considered very lucky cats. In the Edo era, Calico cats were believed to be lucky, and boats with a Calico riding were said to not meet with disaster, especially if the cat was mail, and they were sold for a high price.
