Birman
The saintly cat of Burma who wears white socks.
The Birman fits its name of “Saintly Cat of Burma”, and is shrouded in legend and mystery. Legend has it that Singh, a white cat who lived in a temple dedicated to the sapphire eyed golden goddess Tsun-Kyan-Kse, was an ancestor of the Birman. A local story has been handed down that when the temple was attacked and its master died, that white cat jumped on the remains, changed its body color to the color of the goddess, and inspired the monks. However, the reality is that a cat that was brought from Burma to France is the roots of the Birman. After World War II only 2 cats remained, but through breeding with Siamese and Persians, they escaped extinction.
